Theory of continuum percolation. I. General formalism.

چکیده
The theoretical basis of continuum percolation has changed greatly since its beginning as little more than an analogy with lattice systems. Nevertheless, there is yet no comprehensive theory of this field. A basis for such a theory is provided here with the introduction of the Potts fluid, a system of interacting s-state spins which are free to move in the continuum. In the s → 1 limit, the Potts magnetization, susceptibility and correlation functions are directly related to the percolation probability, the mean cluster size and the pair-connectedness, respectively. Through the Hamiltonian formulation of the Potts fluid, the standard methods of statistical mechanics can therefore be used in the continuum percolation problem.

Existence of phase transition for heavy-tailed continuum percolation
Let (Xn, rn)n≥1 be a marked Poisson process with intensity λ in Rd, d ≥ 2. The marks (rn) are radii of closed Euclidean balls centered at the points (Xn). Two points Xi and Xj of the Poisson process X are adjacent, Xi ∼ Xj , if D(Xi, ri) ∩ D(Xj , rj) 6= ∅, where D(x,R) = {y ∈ Rd : ||x− y||2 ≤ R}. We say that x, y ∈ Rd are connected, x↔ y, if there are Xi1 , . . . , Xil ∈ X such that x ∈ D(Xi1 ,...
متن کاملContinuum Percolation with Unreliable and Spread-Out Connections
We derive percolation results in the continuum plane that lead to what appears to be a general tendency of many stochastic network models. Namely, when the selection mechanism according to which nodes are connected to each other, is sufficiently spread out, then a lower density of nodes, or on average fewer connections per node, are sufficient to obtain an unbounded connected component. We look...
متن کاملExtraordinary Behavior in Correlated Site-Bond Percolation
Site-bond percolation is addressed in a very general class of correlated sitebond systems. The site-bond model analyzed provides a simple natural picture of disordered media such as porous materials, non-uniform surfaces adsorption potential, conductivity of inhomogeneous systems and landscapes. The bond (site) percolation threshold exhibits an extraordinary behavior, showing maxima and minima ...
متن کاملTheory of Continuum Percolation Ii. Mean Eld Theory
I use a previously introduced mapping between the continuum per-colation model and the Potts uid to derive a mean eld theory of continuum percolation systems. This is done by introducing a new variational principle, the basis of which has to be taken, for now, as heuristic. The critical exponents obtained are = 1, = 1 and = 0:5, which are identical with the mean eld exponents of lattice percola...
